In this course, you will gain practical insights and hands-on tips to help you get started on building your own sustainability policy, and developing the next steps on your journey to becoming a more responsible business. Each of the five modules of this course takes half an hour to complete. With a short and focused learning session each day (for example during your break, or on your daily commute), you can finish the course just in one work week. Each module contains three sections: WATCH: Review the video lesson on key topics READ: Learn more from real-life examples DO: Apply your knowledge to your own policy Day 1: Your Sustainability Values, Mission and Vision Starting with the question why having a sustainability policy can support your business, in this module you will learn how the process of developing, implementing and using your sustainability policy will benefit your business. You will also start working on articulating your core values and purpose, which will form the basis for creating a policy that is relevant and impactful. Day 2: Outline the Scope and Content of Your Policy Building on the core values you’ve identified, in this module you will focus on what your sustainability policy actually is, and work on defining what should be covered in it and how you will apply it. Your work on outlining the scope and content of your policy will support the steps you need for creating a policy that serves as a useful tool for your business. Day 3: Shape Your Policy Statements on ESG Priorities A key approach you need for crafting an impactful policy is prioritising. In this module you will reflect on the conditions and functions within your company that will affect the implementation of your policy, and work on your policy statements - the essence of your sustainability policy - addressing key Environmental, Social and Governance focus areas. Day 4: Make It Relevant, Meaningful and Useful For your policy to be effective in inspiring commitment and action, it needs to connect with its intended audiences in a meaningful and relevant way. In this module, you will work on finding the right tone of voice for your policy, and preparing for how you will turn your policy into a useful stakeholder engagement and communication tool. Day 5: Assign Actionable, Measurable and Concrete Responsibilities To make sure your sustainability policy is a living document, you need to turn the words in your policy into actionable, measurable and concrete responsibilities. In this module, you will work on identifying and defining key approaches to developing the next steps on your journey to becoming a more responsible business, with action plans and targets. Is there any requirement for taking this course? This course does not have any prerequisites for specific prior knowledge or experience. All you need is an interest in the topic and willingness to put your knowledge to work! While most of the course content can be accessed wherever you have internet connection, we recommend doing the course work in a quiet environment where you can take notes and work on the template (e.g. on your desktop computer, or with pen and paper if you prefer the printed format). How long do I have access to the course? We’ve designed this course with busy professionals like you in mind. That’s why the modules are packaged in a manageable unit of “30 minutes per day”. We also feel setting a daily goal will help you stay on track with your course work. However, you DO NOT need to complete the course in one work week.
